The 2014 Italics Estate Cabernet Sauvignon was created from blocks of old-vine estate Cabernet Sauvignon, planted with Napa’s tried and true clones. And in 2014, we harvested the first crop of our newer blocks, planted with some heirloom clones. First impressions: The nose is distinctively spicy – nutmeg and clove – an homage to the sophisticated barrel program, which we continue to refine. As the wine opens up, the delicate strawberry compote nose floats to the rim of the glass. The nose is sweet, like smelling a sugar glaze as it is drizzled on a warm spice cake. In the mouth, the texture is like a perfectly brewed cup of Assam tea – warm and just enough tannin to give the palate length and duration. This is not a heavy, chewy wine. On the contrary, it is built for lasting pleasure. Give this wine some time to open up, and possibly decant it. The 2014 Italics Estate Cabernet Sauvignon will peak throughout the next ten years with a wide window for its optimal range. Enjoy!
